x = no draft pick that round
- Owners do not have to draft up through round 18
- A team can stop drafting at anytime
- Reasons for not drafting all 18 rounds
- Over the cap
- No quality players worth drafting at that price of the round
- Roster has reached the 18 players limit
- Any player not signed the day of the draft will become a free agent
- Players are signed to their contract immediately after the draft ends
- You may only sign 5 players to 2 yr contracts (Updated Aug. 2008)
- Trading Signed players during the Draft
- If a pick is traded for a signed player
- The team losing the signed player will get whatever draft pick they traded for and their last “Keeper” slot in the middle of the draft will be given back to the owner (unless that of portion of the draft has already been completed) If so, that owner loses that slot and an additional pick will be given to the owner at the end of the draft.
- The team gaining an extra player will lose a pick at the end of the “Keeper” slots in the middle of the draft. (unless that portion of the draft has already been completed) If so, that owner loses their next pick of the draft.
- Trading an odd number of picks
- The team that receives the greater number of draft picks in the trade will begin to lose their final picks of their draft. (For example, Vito has two 3rd round picks and one pick in all other rounds. He will lose his 18th round pick so his roster does not exceed 18 players).
Free Agents
- Any player not drafted or released during the season is a free agent
- Owners may acquire a free agent by selecting him on the waiver wire
- Waiver wire will use a first come, first serve basis. UNLESS, the players has been dropped within the last 48hrs.
- All player dropped will be placed on waivers for a 48 hr period.
- During that time any team may place a bid on that player.
- After the 48hrs is up the owner with the highest bid receives that player for the bid price for 1 year.
- If there is no bid placed on a player within the 48 hrs period, then that player becomes a free agent and any owner may sign that player at any time.
- Any player acquired on the waiver wire after the 48 hr claim period will be automatically given a contract of 1yr for $0.5 million.
Releasing Players
- Any owner wishing to release a player from his contract before his contract expires will receive a salary cap penalty.
- Cap Penalty
- Owner will still have to pay the full amount of the player’s salary for the first year and pay ½ the amount of the player’s remaining contract.
- Example: Mike Vick is released from his $7.0million/2yrs contract
- Owner will still have to pay $7million for the 1st yr of the contract.
- Then the owner will still have to pay $3.5 million over the 2nd yr of contract.
- If a player retires under the first year of the contract you will receive the cap space for the second year.
- You may not cut a player from your roster if he is amonth the top 20 players in the power rankings based on average points per game (added Aug. 2008).
- You may drop a players in the top 20 if your player hasbecomes injured or has other problems forcing him inactive. (added Aug. 2008).
Trades
- If 5 owners reject any trade within a 72hr period, the trade is veto.
- No Trades after Week 10
- No Signing of players or releasing of players once the Superbowl begins until next year’s draft.
- Owners may trade draft picks for players or other draft picks. However..
- Owners can only trade draft picks for that current draft on that draft day.
- No trading future picks
- Example: Can’t trade next 3 future 1 st round picks for one player or players.
- Looks at Draft regarding other draft day trade topics.
Franchise Tag
- Owners may choose to keep one free agent at the end of each year
- That player becomes the highest paid player at his position by $0.5 million.
- Example: Placing Franchise Tag on Clinton Portis
- Portis made $2 million last year
- Shaun Alexander made $7.5 million last year
- Therefore Portis now makes $8.0 million over 1 yr
- If you want to tag a player and he is already the highest paid player! You must pay the current salary plus a ¼ percent raise.
- Therefore, if you wanted to place the Franchise Tag again on Portis at the end of the next year, you would have to pay $8.0 + the ¼ raise ($2.0) because he is the highest paid player at that position already, which comes out to be a total of $10million dollars for 1 yr.
- As you can see, the more you continue to tag a player the more expensive it becomes to keep him each year!!! You would also affect other people trying to franchise players at the same position.
Individual Game Tie Breakers
- Any game ending in a tie will be determined by the following Tie Breakers
- Week 1 QB pts
- Week 2 RB pts
- Week 3 WR pts
- Week 4 TE pts
- Week 5 QB pts
- Week 6 RB pts
- Week 7 WR pts
- Week 8 TE pts
- Week 9 QB pts
- Week 10 RB pts
- Week 11 WR pts
- Week 12 TE pts
- Week 13 QB pts
- Week 14 RB pts
- Week 15 WR pts
- Week 16 TE pts
- Second tie Breaker will be whatever the following weeks tie breaker is and so on.
- Example: A week 2 game is tied at 102pts and each team’s RB scored 15pts, the second tie breaker would be WR pts, then TE, and then QB.
Final Payouts for 2008
- Each owner paid $75
- $900 total
- $500 goes to 1st place
- $200 goes to 2nd place
- $100 goes to 3rd place
- $100 goes to running the site
